Blue Lollipop Road

so just take chances and go for it

Sitting here on a gorgeous Sunday night watching a fiery sunset:

Dragons breath sunset

(it almost looks like the breath of a dragon which I think is super cool), and I’m reading an article about people who shared their secrets for staying motivated, taking risks, and most of all…finding happiness. This paragraph jumped out at me:

Just do it

This is so the truth. We are all working with the same tools.

What will you do with yours?

another successful breakfast by schoolhouse maple

Breakfast

…by successful, I mean delicious dips in the warm maple syrup that my friends Jon & Dana Finny make. My mangled because I still can’t get the hang of flipping pancakes properly, still taste amazing, doused in this stuff:

Breakfast

Ahhh…warm fall balcony breakfast mornings.

Thanks Jon & Dana!

You want some? Get some! (Did somebody say holiday gifts?) Drop Jon & Dane a line:

learn about the secret lives of hoarders

Have you ever been curious to learn about why some people get addicted to “stuff?” Do you have someone in your life affected by hoarding? Come learn with us tomorrow night! We (the Carolina Organizers group) are hosting my good friend (and former boss), Matt Paxton from 4pm – 8pm at the Harvest Center of Charlotte to talk about who hoards and why this dilemma isn’t going away.

I’ve personally known Matt for 10+ years and have come to know this fantastic guy with immeasurable experience in the hoarding world very well. He makes this otherwise uncomfortable subject approachable and has helped countless people live happier, healthier, better lives through his work. His style of teaching is the perfect balance of being humorous, and compassionate. This will be a great event for anyone who wants to understand a little better about this subject and the attachments we have to physical things.

Here we are a few years back when I worked for Paxton in VA:

Register here now and join us tomorrow night, Thursday October 20, 2016!

i wish

I fell asleep texting with a friend last night at midnight telling him I felt like I was living in a war zone with the sound of helicopters and pop, pop, pop outside my windows. I live a few blocks from Uptown (Charlotte’s “downtown”) where lots of violence and madness has been happening.

I’m currently sitting at a Starbucks, just a few miles outside Uptown trying to focus on work and epically failing. It feels impossible to keep my mind out of the spin cycle thoughts of how incredibly messed up humans are these days. On a happy note, a police officer just walked in near me and a guy standing in line shook his hand and thanked him…then bought him a coffee. That made me smile.

I had a lunch meeting before this and when I walked in the restaurant, I passed by a table of 4 police officers.  Full uniforms and bullet proof vests. I stopped and thanked them, shared that I had just sent an email to some good friends of mine who I consider family (firefighters, police officers, ATF, FBI.) They thanked me for thanking them. Part of the email I sent to my public safety friends:

I have no idea how you ever had the selflessness to decide you wanted to do that kind of work however many years ago. I wish I was that awesome.

Oh the gratitude I continually have for all of the men & women in public service of any kind who help gift us freedoms and safety.

THANK YOU!

3 days a week in the early morning, I run in Uptown Charlotte, through the exact blocks that are now smashed to god knows what and ridden with graffiti after last night. Thursday mornings are typical run day for me. I ran a different route today. I had the inclination to crank out my normal routine and run through the heart of The Queen City as per usual to survey the damage, but I quickly snapped into…yeah…no…I don’t need to see that.

The media is awful, social media is worse. Nutty people are given free platforms to create chaos, and we react. It makes my head spin in shock and disbelief. I have numerous thoughts and opinions about the state of my city, this country, and this world, but instead of ranting about those, I will share what I thought about during my run this morning on that alternate route I took…

I kept thinking of the words, I wish.

I wish that each and every one of us, each and every day took just 5 minutes. 5 little minutes in silence, away from phones, laptops, TV screens, etc. to think about things like:

*What it felt like the first time we got our hearts broken
*What it would be like to be a police officer and get spit on
*How we felt last time we stood over a casket
*What that gut-punch feeling was like when our friend called to tell us they had cancer
*What it would be like to lose a baby
*What our days would entail if we were in a wheel chair
*How it feels when others judge us
*What it would be like to grow up without a mom or dad
*Those years we were broke as a joke
*How helpless we feel when someone we love gets hurt

Maybe if we took just 5 minutes to stop and think about what life has been, could be, or is for so many around us…we’d be much more loving, understanding and less violent with each other.

I wish.

get outta jail!

I just posted the below on my biz Facebook page. A simple explanation to the method of my madness and what I “do.”

I hope you will share this, and sign up for email notifications to get my blog in your inbox. After that, I hope you go do something fun today, and then do something nice for someone else. Having fun is awesome and being nice is awesome:

Happy Tuesday September 20th my friends!
Lots of questions about what I/Blue Lollipop Road is/does recently, so here you go:
https://bluelollipoproad.com/about/

I’m a #SimplicityExpert!

I teach clients get rid of their stuff. (Translation; crap.) This means I help clear away the triangle of jail. That jail is the personal, physical, and financial dead weight that drags us down and all too often makes life really sucky and not fun:

1.) I talk to people about the dirty laundry/sad/crappy life “stuff” and help game plan to move forward better and happier.

2.) I help people deal with the chaos/disorder/clutter in their home space, and say goodbye to the “stuff” they no longer need or want.

3.) I work with people on stressful/frustrating money “stuff” and advise on how to waste less, reduce bills, and pay off debt.

Life is short! Isn’t #freedom sweeter than being trapped? I sure think so! Live OUTSIDE the triangle jail. I can help you #GetUnstuck.

we need more altruism

In a time of life during which I seem to watch (and experience) more and more humans who are completely self-absorbed, this is a refreshing watch:

I write here on this Blue Lollipop Road in hopes to inspire others to do more of what they love, keep in perspective what’s important, and live happy. I’ve worked very hard to build a life of being a good friend, sister, daughter, neighbor, etc. In all my imperfections, I’m incredibly proud of myself for doing a pretty decent job at that. Aren’t we all supposed to at least try to go the extra mile or do the right thing when nobody’s watching? Check in on someone because that’s the right thing to do? Shouldn’t these types of things be second nature?

Maybe I’m crazy.

Lately, I’ve had far too many repetitive conversations in an attempt to understand why people seem to just not give a shit about much, or anyone…but themselves.

I don’t like it, I think It’s pretty sad, and I think we can do better.

I’m off to practice keeping my head out of my ass. Won’t you join me?

much more than a movie diary

You should read this whether you like/watch/care about movies or not. This column has been written by a friend for a lot of years now. He loves it. I think it is awesome. (He is awesome, too.) We could all learn a lot from this guy. Some people just make you want to be and do better. Some people remind you about all the things that are really important and worth, (or not worth) worrying about.

Thank goodness for those people.

A line that screamed out to me, in Dom’s latest post from 9/8:

“…I can promise you, if there is someone in your world suffering in some way, even the smallest connection can prove meaningful.”

I could’t agree more. Connection is what makes all of this crazy madness, this life…somehow the perfect beautiful mess.

What are you doing today to reach out to someone you care about?
