the blue lollipop road story

In 1994, I left the country for the first time ever to participate in a German exchange program. A few weeks after returning, two of my friends were killed in a car accident after leaving my house. To have a first hand look at the other side of the world and the other side of life in one summer changes a girl forever. At least it did me. From that summer on, I have wholeheartedly understood that people and time are the only things that truly matter. With that realization, I’ve made a life out of traveling, spending the most time possible with the people I love, and living the carpe diem. (Seize the day!)

In 2008 I started itching for a way to share my stories and adventures with more than just friends and family. I thought a blog would be perfect, but what to call it? “Blue Lollipop” came to me in an instant. In the years leading up to 1994 during soccer season, my friends and I practically considered blue razz lollipops with gum inside a food group. We consumed boxes of them together and to this day they have a special mojo among us now grown women who played soccer at MAU High School. “Road” was the perfect addition to describe my love for travel. Thus, Blue Lollipop Road was born!

Since 2008 Blue Lollipop Road has traveled thousands of miles. I’ve typed, I’ve photographed, I’ve driven. This site has changed and grown into this amazing thing that is my heart and soul and am more proud of than anything else I have ever done.

I created this site in honor of my friends Maria and Brandy who are no longer here. It will be 18 years this summer that they are gone, and I can still hear them laughing. At barely 16 years old, Maria and Brandy knew pure joy. Such a rarity.

Maria and Brandy inspire me to be fearless every day, to live the life I want to live, and to continue to share stories of my adventures with you.

Thank you for coming along my Blue Lollipop Road…
